A big change

I thought it would not be a big deal if our internet connection was cut. I’m currently unemployed so I have no means of stopping it since my uncle is the one paying all the bills and I am just one big leech. It is really hard to lose both parents. I hate the fact that I am relying on others for everything. It is really hard to find a job nowadays. I will be able to update the blog only every weekends since that is the only time I will be able to access the internet. I visit my gf every weekend and luckily she has what I need… an internet connection!

I also decided to move all my showbiz topics to another blog (http://ayumicrea.blogspot.com) because most of the readers here are foreign and they cannot relate with most of the topics. There once was a foreigner who commented on one of my posts and boldly said that even though she has no idea what the post was about, she will still comment on it.

My first time in Trinoma

My girlfriend and I went to Trinoma or Triangle North of Manila (for those who don’t know, Trinoma is a mall) yesterday together with my girlfriend’s older sister and brother. Her brother also brought his seven-year-old daughter, Elaine. I was a bit surprised because she was avoiding my gf. Usually, when she sees my gf, she’d kiss and hug her right away. I think my presence bothered her. She was jealous because I was with her aunt. Her brother wanted to buy Wheatgrass. Unfortunately, we were not able to find the store inside Trinoma which sells the said plant.

After that, we split into two groups. My girlfriend and I went to the grocery store while the other group went to the toy section. They finished earlier than us so they ate dinner while waiting for us. We went straight to their location after we have finished. We browsed the food court thoroughly and ended up ordering squid and tuna sisig. We thought the tuna and squid sisig would be delicious but we were wrong. The frozen fish sisig that my gf usually buys in the market tastes better than what we ordered. We should have ordered something else. After eating, my gf’s brother took us to my gf’s place. After saying their goodbyes, my gf’s niece hugged and kissed her. Her niece was okay again. Maybe she got used to my presence since I was with them for a long time and was somehow convinced that I was a good guy, hehe.

Heartburn

A few weeks ago, my friend was confined in a hospital for a day due to heartburn. I did not know what heartburn means so I researched about it. Despite its name, heartburn actually has nothing to do with the heart. It is so called because of a burning sensation of the breastbone where the heart is located although some heart problems do have a similar sensation to heartburn. Heart burn according to wikipedia is is a painful or burning sensation in the esophagus, just below the breastbone usually associated with regurgitation of gastric acid. The pain often rises in the chest and may radiate to the neck, throat, or angle of the jaw. Initially, I thought what happened to my friend was severe since the word “heartburn” is kinda scary. After talking to him, I learned that it was not really a big deal. It was a big deal to him though since the doctor strongly ordered him to stay away from citrus, drinks that contain caffeine, sweets and of course fat. I felt sorry for him a bit since these were the things he loved the most. He loves his health more so he just followed the doctor’s orders without hesitation. I hope I don’t end up like him.

The magic of Japanese songs

I’ve been a fan of American and European songs for years. My attention back then was solely focused towards English songs. When I was still in high school, I accidentally became addicted to Ranma 1/2 which was shown daily on RPN-9. I never thought I ‘d like songs with lyrics I did not understand. I was surprised that Ranma 1/2’s opening and ending songs had a great impact on me. I started to like songs from anime series! Slowly, my crave for Japanese songs became more like an addiction. I did not care whether or not the song is from an anime series anymore. I remember saving songs using a cassette recorder. When the song is about to be played on tv, I just push the record button. By doing this, I was able to make my own compilation of Jap songs.

I still listen to English songs every now and then but I still prioritize Jap ones. I really can’t explain everything in detail why I’m more on Jap songs, but I am sure of one thing. Whenever I listen to japanese songs, I suddenly think of things. It’s like I am daydreaming. Sometimes I suddenly imagine that I’m the lead character of a certain anime or I’m doing a jutsu or transmuting a thing into another thing, just like in Full Metal Alchemist. I can’t get that feeling from English songs. Maybe that is why I like Jap songs more. Weird huh?

No Pinoy was hurt in LA quake

A magnitude-5.4 earthquake shook Los Angeles, California before dawn Wednesday (Manila time).

Department of Foreign Affairs spokesman Claro Cristobal said Manila has instructed its consulate in LA to coordinate with Filipino-American communities in the area.

“As of 9 a.m., we have received no report of any Filipino affected by the quake,” Cristobal said in an interview on dzBB radio, citing initial reports from the Philippine consulate general there.

“It is good news that as of this time we have not received reports of Filipino casualties,” he added.

He revealed that DFA ordered the Philippine consulate there to be in constant touch with Filipino-American organizations in the LA area for reports on Filipinos’ condition there.

There were no initial reports of serious damage or injuries from the magnitude-5.4 quake.

No more plastic shopping bags in Los Angeles

The City Council said last Tuesday that there will be no more plastic shopping bags in stores beginning July 1, 2010. Shoppers can either bring their own bags or pay 25 cents for a paper bag.

City officials said the ban is meant to reduce waste in Los Angeles, which uses about 2.3 billion plastic bags a year.

The council also informed the government that they want a bill that would charge at least 15 cents per paper bag.

Last year, San Francisco passed the nation’s first bag ban, which took effect in November.

Banning plastic shopping bags is a good idea. It is better to use paper bags since they can be recycled. This banning should also be done in our country to reduce waste.

What we can do to slow down global warming

A lot of people are now dead because of global warming. Small shifts in temperatures could extend the range of mosquitoes that spread malaria. Water supplies could be contaminated by floods. Killer heat waves can kill thousands of people in an instant. Skin diseases could also lead to death. Global warming is the key to Earth’s destruction. Here are some of the things we can do to slow down global warming:

1. lessen energy use – When producing energy, a lot of carbon dioxide are emitted from factories so we have to conserve energy.

2. refrain from burning things – Don’t burn wastes that can be recycled.

3. improve vehicle fuel-efficiency – The second largest source of greenhouse gases is transportation. Motor vehicles are responsible for about a third of all carbon dioxide emissions. The new hybrid cars, using efficient gas-electric engines, can cut global warming pollution by 30% or more.

4. drive less – You’ll save energy by taking the bus, riding a bike, or walking.

Japanese vending machines with age identifier

Taspo cards were created to prevent minors from purchasing cigarettes at vending machines. This event went into full effect in Tokyo, Okinawa and seven other prefectures last Tuesday, bringing all of Japan’s prefectures into the system.

Under the system, people are no longer able to buy cigarettes from vending machines without taspo cards.

The only problem is, there are a lot of people who are not aware of the system. Some put money inside the machine hoping to buy a pack of cigarettes. Of course they will be just wasting their time and money since they have no taspo cards.

The taspo system was first introduced in Miyazaki and Kagoshima prefectures last March, and gradually spread across the nation. However, since people have to go to the trouble of applying for cards, providing photographs and identification, the system is still largely unused.

My friend runs out of luck

Last Monday, my friend went to my place to get his crocs (shoes for chefs) that he lent me a few weeks ago. When he arrived at my place, I immediately gave him his crocs because it was already late and i knew that the next day was the start of his ojt. After a quick conversation, he asked me to accompany him while waiting for a taxi. But that was not his motive after all. He wanted me to check if his ex-girlfriend was still in front of the bakery near my place. He accidentally saw his ex on his way to my place. I took a peek at the bakery and I saw her ex standing in front of the bakery waiting for him. We decided to make a quick turn to the left to avoid his ex who was almost stalking him, in hope of a reconciliation. We thought everything was fine until she spotted and approached us. She told my friend, “Hoy usap tau”(Hey, let’s talk). My friend did not answer. His ex got a little mad and said “Hoy, ayaw mo ako kausap?”(Hey, don’t you wanna talk to me?). He just remained silent. After getting no reply from him, his ex decided to leave. My friend was relieved. He did not want to talk to his ex anymore. She was the cause of all the heartaches and pains he felt. His ex did a lot of bad things to him and was also childish. He vowed not to talk to her anymore. Before riding a taxi, he told me that his current girlfriend was confined in a hospital due to heart problems. He was not feeling alright because he wants to be with his girlfriend while she is being confined but he has to start his ojt the next day.
